My first time abroad was when I studied at the Atelier Neo Medici in Monflanquin, France, under the tutelage of Patrick Betuaider, where I learned what Max Doerner called the Technique Mixte, which is the process used in Flanders and northern Europe combining layers of opaque tempera paint with oil glazes.

During his early career, Paul LaJeunesse studied at the Atelier Neo Medici in Monflanquin, France, under the guidance of renowned artist Patrick Betaudier. This intensive program focused on the Technique Mixte, a classical European painting method that combines layers of opaque tempera with oil glazes, a process originating in the studios of the Old Masters. This formative experience deepened LaJeunesse’s understanding of color, texture, and light, influences that continue to shape his approach to public art.
