The Duluth Street Art Initiative, in partnership with local artists and property owners, is transforming a downtown Duluth alley into a vibrant public art space. This community-driven project, recently featured on Fox21 News, aims to revitalize the area while celebrating the creative spirit of the city.

Leading this initiative is Paul LaJeunesse, an Assistant Professor of Art at the College of St. Scholastica, who designed the primary mural for the project. The piece, located behind Dubh Linn’s Irish Pub on Superior Street, serves as the focal point of the evolving art corridor.

“We’re trying to create an area of cultural capital for downtown Duluth that is going to have a positive impact,” LaJeunesse told Fox21 News. “It’s about transforming underutilized spaces into community assets that reflect the vibrancy and creativity of the area.”

The project invites volunteers to join the painting effort, creating an inclusive, collaborative space for artists and community members alike. The effort culminated in a public celebration featuring live music, local food, and a chance to meet the artists behind the work.

As the Duluth Street Art Initiative continues to expand its efforts, this project marks an important step toward turning the city into a destination for street art enthusiasts and local creatives alike.
